Fibre splicing
for hyperscale
data centres

Our engineers install, splice and certify fibre inside live hyperscale and colocation data centres around London, including Google and Microsoft campuses. We do single-fibre and 12-fibre ribbon fusion splicing, OTDR and MPO testing, and full test records at handover.

Featured projects

Hyperscale work, delivered on site

We usually work for the ICT contractor on the main build: fibre crews that turn up inducted and equipped, follow the site’s permit system, and report progress every day.

A fibre link package across the data halls of a Google campus. We were cleared on Google’s extended-workforce programme and data-centre access system, and worked to the ICT contractor’s schedule and daily reporting.

  • Single-mode fibre installed, dressed and labelled to drawing
  • Fusion splicing into high-density enclosures and panels
  • OTDR and insertion-loss testing on every link
  • Daily progress reports and as-built records to the main contractor

Microsoft campus, North Acton

External and internal fibre works on a two-building hyperscale campus (LON01 and LON02), with up to ten of our operatives on site under a Tier-1 main contractor’s permit system.

  • Fibre pulled from external pits and chambers into the buildings
  • Ducted building entries sealed, dressed and labelled
  • Riser fibre and splicing in closures and comms rooms
  • Permits, RAMS and end-of-day reports for every shift

Equinix and colocation data halls

Smart hands, cabinet works and fibre in live colocation halls on the Slough and Hayes data-centre corridor, where downtime matters and change windows are short.

  • Equinix Slough IBX campus: cabinet changes, fibre and smart hands
  • Network decommission tickets for Booking.com at Equinix Slough
  • Data-hall fibre and containment crews at LON3 Slough and LON81 Hayes
  • MPO trunking, cable management and labelling to the operator’s standard

Ribbon / mass-fusion splicing

Twelve fibres in one splice

High-count ribbon cables (288f, 864f, 1728f and above) carry most hyperscale backbones. A ribbon splicer joins all 12 fibres of a ribbon in one cycle, so a large closure takes days instead of weeks. We run our own Fujikura and Sumitomo ribbon splicers and know how to strip, cleave and route ribbon in closures without breaking fibres.

Test and certification

Every link tested and documented

Clients get test results they can hand straight to the operator: bi-directional OTDR traces, loss figures against budget, connector end-face checks and MPO polarity checks.

The team

Small crews, senior engineers, and the director on the tools.

London Data is run by Ozgur Koz, a fibre engineer with 26 years in fibre and structured cabling. Our engineers hold ECS cards and IPAF, and are used to Tier-1 sites with inductions, permits and RAMS. We supply a single splicing specialist for a peak week or a full crew for a phase.
